How to Clean Wicker Patio Furniture

There is no denying the beauty of wicker patio furniture. Any outdoor property would look even more stunning with a wicker set on it.

Aside from its great appearance, wicker is also a good furniture option because it is lightweight and comfortable. For all its advantages though, wicker has one major disadvantage. It can sometimes be a chore to clean and maintain. Even so, proper regular cleaning is a must to ensure that your wicker pieces last long.

Unlike other materials, wicker requires regular cleaning attention. Every few weeks, you have to remove dust and soil debris from it. Otherwise, pieces of dirt could harden in between the weave. You can remove dust easily by using a soft brush bristle. If there isn’t too much dust on your furniture, you can simply use a vacuum with a brush attachment on it.

Dusting is considered minor cleaning. Major cleaning can be performed twice a year on your wicker patio furniture. For this task, you need a soft sponge, a bucket of slightly warm water and mild detergent. Add very little amounts of detergent into the water and use the sponge to apply the mixture onto the furniture. Do not completely soak the sponge and use as little of the mixture as possible. Too much of it can ruin your wicker furniture. Rinse soap with plain water.

After washing, you can pat some areas dry with a piece of cloth. Since you can’t completely dry wicker off this way, you may have to leave it out under the sun for some time. You can also blow dry some areas of your furniture.

You should be careful when drying wicker pieces. Putting too much pressure on any part may permanently ruin the form of your furniture once it dries completely. You should therefore make sure not to sit on chairs and seats before they are thoroughly dry.

To minimize dust, dirt and damage, you can use covers on your wicker pieces. During rainy days or cold days however, it is always best to simply store your furniture indoors.
